Because Plasma Active is a free project, there is more than one provider for an image. The best known are open-slx and BasysKom. Customers of the Balsam Professional Box already have a ready image on their dvd.

Customers of the Balsam Professional Box can use the Plasma Active image from their DVD 2. After the last Box-Release, it is suggested to use a newer image from the Downloadpage.

1.1.2. Downloading Plasma Active from open-slxready

open-slx provides a ready image (Glossar) from Plasma Active, that is ready for download. The open-slx version of Plasma Active is based on Balsam Professional in version 12.1.

To download the image go to: http://download.open-slx.com/iso/12.1/. There you will find a file named Plasma-Active2.i686.1.1.Versionnumber.iso. The version number has three digits. The highest digit points to the latest image. Click now to this file, and download it in any folder. Now you can go to the next step.

1.1.3. Creating a USB Stickready

In the next steps we are placing a Plasma Active Live Image on a USB Stick. You will need:

  • PC with Linux and internet access,

  • WeTab (or other Touchpaddevices)

  • USB-Stick with minimum 2 GB.

Procedure 1.1. Preparing a USB-Stickready

  1. Now plug in your USB-Stick, and type as root: fdisk -l. Now we find out the device identifier from the USB. In our example it is /dev/sdb.

  2. Now change the directory to that which contains the image:

    dd if=/PATH/TO/LIVE-ISO/PlasmaActive2-Version number.iso of=/dev/sdb bs=4M
    [Warning]

Please keep in mind that all data on the stick will be lost. Instead of of=/dev/sdb you must replace it with your found device identifier from fdisk.

  3. After typing sync you can pull out the USB and put it into your touchscreen-device.
